Grand Canyon Track
270 Govetts Leap Road, Blackheath
The Grand Canyon Track near Blackheath is widely considered the crown jewel of Blue Mountains bushwalking, and one of the the most popular and busiest walks to explore, and for good reason. This historic 6.3km loop, carved into the landscape in 1907, offers an immersive journey that feels like stepping back into a prehistoric era. Starting from Evans Lookout, the trail descends steeply into a lush world of towering sandstone walls, cascading waterfalls, and ancient ferns.
Unlike many cliff-top walks, the Grand Canyon takes you deep into the belly of the gorge. You’ll follow the winding path of Greaves Creek, crossing stepping stones and even walking behind a waterfall at the spectacular ‘Rotunda’ rock shelter. The air here is noticeably cooler, scented with damp moss and eucalyptus. While the climb back out is a heart-pumper involving several hundred stairs, the reward is a breathtaking perspective of the Grose Valley.
Distance: 6.3km loop
