Just a few minutes downstream from the iconic Empress Falls, Sylvia Falls is often considered the prettiest stop in the Valley of the Waters. While many hikers turn back after seeing the canyoners at Empress, those who continue for another 150 metres are rewarded with a multi-tiered giant that feels like a scene from a fairytale.
Named in 1895 by caretaker Peter Mulheran - inspired by its ‘silvery’ appearance - the falls feature water cascading gracefully over jagged sandstone ledges into a series of shallow, fern-fringed pools.
The track winds directly alongside the falls, offering multiple perspectives of the 15-metre drop. Surrounded by lush rainforest and the constant mist of the Valley of the Waters Creek, Sylvia Falls provides a serene atmosphere that feels miles away from the busier lookouts.
